Catalytic Converter

Removal

WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this section, refer to Safety Warnings in section 100-00 General Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

NOTE: If the catalytic converter is not being replaced, the HO2S and the catalyst monitor sensor do not need to be removed from the catalytic converter. Disconnecting the electrical connectors is still necessary.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

1. Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).
   

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
   Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
   

1. Remove the muffler and tailpipe.
   Refer to: Muffler and Tailpipe (309-00C Exhaust System - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).
   

1. If equipped, remove the rear driveshaft.
   Refer to: Rear Driveshaft (205-01 Driveshaft, Removal and Installation).
   

1. Remove the HO2S .
   Refer to: Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) (303-14C Electronic Engine Controls - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).
   

1. Remove the catalyst monitor sensor.
   Refer to: Catalyst Monitor Sensor (303-14C Electronic Engine Controls - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).
   

1. NOTICE: Removing the catalytic converter-to-turbocharger clamp may be difficult. Use care not to scratch or gouge the catalytic converter flanges or sealing surfaces. Scratches and gouges may cause exhaust leaks.

   NOTE: Note the position of the catalytic converter-to-turbocharger clamp for installation.

Installation

1. NOTE: Do not tighten the 2 catalytic converter-to-bracket nuts at this time.

1. NOTE: Make sure the new catalytic converter-to-turbocharger clamp is positioned over both the catalytic converter inlet flange and the turbocharger outlet flange.

   Position the catalytic converter-to-turbocharger clamp as noted during disassembly.
   Torque : 20 Nm

1. Torque : 25 Nm

1. Torque : 20 Nm

1. Install the catalyst monitor sensor.

1. Instal the HO2S .
   Refer to: Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) (303-14C Electronic Engine Controls - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).
   

1. If equipped, install the rear driveshaft.
   Refer to: Rear Driveshaft (205-01 Driveshaft, Removal and Installation).
   

1. Install the muffler and tailpipe.
   Refer to: Muffler and Tailpipe (309-00C Exhaust System - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).
